Berwick's 100 per cent record has gone and they were fortunate their unbeaten record didn't go with them.

Montrose took complete control in the last half hour and they were deprived of victory by a wonder save when Craig Coyle tipped over a Steven Kerrigan header. Greig Henslee then had three great chances to win it, but narrowly missed them all.

The first half was all Berwick with Kevin Haynes crashing a shot against the bar and Andy Reid making quality saves from Haynes and Kevin Little.

The home side took the lead after 54 minutes. Kevin McLeish missed a penalty awarded for hand-ball as Reid turned the ball away for a corner. McLeish took it and Little headed home.

From then on Montrose took over. Rangers lost their composure, rarely looked threatening and paid the penalty when Kevin Webster picked up a Kerr Dodds pass, turned quickly and hammered the ball past Doyle.

Webster must have been delighted for he had been barracked from the start by Berwick fans, who have never forgiven him for a controversial goal which knocked them out of the Scottish Cup four years ago.
