Cowdenbeath and Montrose served up a fairly eventful goal-less draw at Central Park.

Montrose should have gone ahead after just two minutes when Martin Wood made great space in the box only to see his drive crash off Andrew Carlin's right-hand post.

That shocked Cowdenbeath into action and they came more into the game throughout the first half. Paddy Kelly's long ball released Darren Gribben in the 13th minute, but his audacious lob over the on-rushing Jim Butter ended up wide of the mark.

Cowdenbeath's John McKeown and Paddy Kelly both missed good chances in the area, while Iain Mauchlen should have done better just three minutes from the interval, shooting just wide after being sent clear by Gribben.

The second half was almost a carbon copy of the first, with Calum Watson forcing a point-blank save from Carlin as Montrose again started the better of the two. Both teams tried what they could to try and find a way through, but Gribben and Paul Doyle were guilty of spurning chances at either end.

A draw was probably a fair result.
