East Stirling came within seven minutes of recording their first win of the season but in the end they had to settle for a point.

However, two draws in successive matches is the first time the club has achieved back-to-back results since January 2002.

The home side enjoyed the better of a scrappy first half and the highlight was a Joe Robertson goal which gave them the lead after 17 minutes.

David Harvey sent over a corner from the right and when Derek Ure appeared to have been taken out of the play the ball fell nicely for Robertson who picked his spot from 15 yards.

Montrose were disappointing and Shire had the upper hand at this stage and should have doubled their lead through Ure.

The striker was put clean through with only the goalkeeper to beat but with space and time to go around him, he lost his composure and hit the ball against Michael Hankinson.

With the wind at their back Montrose looked a bit more positive after the break but were creating very little in front of goal.

Ross Donaldson had a chance to pile on the misery for the visitors but shot wildly over when he should have at least hit the target.

As time ticked away it looked at though the home side would take all three points but the free-kick given away about 20 yards gave Montrose the chance of an equaliser.

Kevin Webster took the kick and the quality of his delivery which went right into the top corner deserved to salvage a point.
