A minute later the woodwork yet again came to Montrose's rescue, Adam Nelson's 25-yard shot cannoning of the post.

In the second half Montrose equalised just before the hour mark when Craig Smart slid the ball home from ten yards after a cut-back form Kevin Webster wide on the right -hand side.

With five minutes remaining Montrose went in front for the first time in the match when substitute Sharp charged down an attempted clearance by Elgin keeper Kieron Renton before firing into an empty net.

With only seconds remaining Sharp scored his second of the game. After being sent clear, he drove the ball home from ten yards to secure Montrose's first points of the season.
