Montrose 0 Cowdenbeath 3

Cowdenbeath continued their push for promotion with an emphatic 3-0 victory at Montrose.

Cowdenbeath were first to threaten, and when Liam Buchanan crossed from the by-line Graham Hay almost conceded an own goal. After 11 minutes David McKenna linked with Armand One and shot just wide of the target.

In the 14th minute Gary Middleton threatened for Montrose with a drive which was saved by David Hay.

Cowdenbeath should have scored after 26 minutes when a mistake by Stuart Ferguson gave Liam Buchanan a chance, but he shot over the bar.

In the 33rd minute One played the ball into Buchanan and he shot wide on the turn.

Cowdenbeath opened the scoring in the 40th minute. A Graham Guy corner caused panic in the home defence, and when Buchanan headed against the crossbar Innes Ritchie stabbed the ball over the line.

Montrose hit back immediately and Middleton was out of luck with a drive which crashed against the post.

Cowdenbeath made it 2-0 in first-half stoppage time. John Ward crossed from the right and Ritchie notched his second of the game with a close-range volley.

After 51 minutes Ritchie almost completed his hat-trick when his header forced a fine save from Sandy Wood. Wood again saved well from One then recovered to save at the feet of Buchanan.

Then danger man One headed just wide from a Buchanan cross.

Cowdenbeath got the third goal they deserved after 69 minutes when Buchanan forced the ball past Wood at the second attempt.

Cowdenbeath pressed for more goals, and David McKenna shot wide after a solo run.
