Queens Park did just enough to claim all three points at Montrose and in doing so underlined their promotion prospects.

Queens were first to threaten after four minutes when Alan Trouten had a shot pushed away by keeper Andy Reid.

Montrose went close to opening the scoring after 17 minutes when a great turn from Calum Watson took him past his marker, but his shot was saved by the foot of David Crawford.

Two minutes later Kevin Webster beat three players on a solo run, and when his first shot was blocked his follow-up effort was saved by Crawford.

After 28 minutes a long ball from Webster was almost headed into his own net by Richard Sinclair.

Two minutes from the break Trouten set up Mark Ferry, and his shot went inches wide. Then at the other end a swerving 20-yard short from Webster went just wide of the post.

The deadlock was broken after 55 minutes when a through ball from Ferry was delicately lifted over the advancing Reid by David Weatherston.

Montrose were out of luck after 68 minutes when a dipping volley from Euan Hall crashed back off the cross-bar with Crawford well beaten.

Montrose pressed in the closing stages, and in the 84th minute Steven Kerrigan was denied by a timely tackle from Sinclair.

Four minutes later Crawford excelled when he saved at the feet of Greig Henslee. Montrose battled right to the end, and three minutes into stoppage time a Henslee header was saved by Crawford.
