Stenhousemuir picked up three valuable points with a resounding victory at Montrose.

Stenhousemuir got off to a flying start with a goal after two minutes. Barry Donnachie was woefully short with a back-pass, and Paul McGrillen stole in find the net from an acute angle.

After 11 minutes Montrose gave the ball away and Joe Savage had a shot turned round the post by James Butter.

It was 2-0 after 13 minutes when Butter sent a clearance kick against Savage, and the ball flew into the net.

Montrose tried to hit back, and after 18 minutes Paul Doyle had a shot tipped over by keeper William McCulloch.

Stenhousemuir stretched their lead to three after 54 minutes when John-Paul McBride crossed for McGrillen to head home at the back-post.

Montrose were out of luck in the 70th minute when Martin Wood had a shot blocked and Darren Spink followed up to smash a shot against the bar.

Montrose kept battling, and after 75 minutes Wood was denied by a fine save from McCulloch.

It was Stenhousemuir's turn to hit the woodwork after 79 minutes when Lee Collins shot against the post.

In the closing minutes McCulloch again came to Stenhousemuir's rescue when saves from Duncan McLean, Craig Smart and Graeme Sharp made sure his side kept a clean sheet.
