Stenhousemuir cruised to a comfortable 3-0 victory which maintains their push for promotion to Division Two.

The visitors got off to a great start with a goal after only six minutes when Paul McGrillen crossed for Jim Mercer to head home.

Stenhousemuir went close again after 17 minutes when John-Paul McBride found Mercer and his effort went just wide of the post.

After 30 minutes a 30-yard McBride drive was inches wide of the target.

Montrose tried to hit back, and William Martin shot just over. Then after a good Montrose break, Euan Hall shot weakly wide.

Two minutes from half-time a shot from Andrew Arbuckle was headed off the Montrose line by Neil Stephen.

Stenhousemuir stretched their lead on the hour mark when Paul McGrillen was fouled in the box by Neil Stephen and got up to drill the ball home from the spot.

Montrose were out of luck in the 70th minute when a Greig Henslee header from a Martyn Fotheringham free kick came back off the post.

Stenhousemuir attacked again, and after 82 minutes a McBride free-kick dipped just wide.

Stenhousemuir wrapped things up five minutes from time when a disastrous mistake by Paul Doyle allowed McGrillen to run clear and score.

Montrose kept battling right to the end, and after 87 minutes a Stephen Fraser shot was blocked by keeper William McCulloch and Calum Watson almost scored from the rebound.

In stoppage time a Fraser shot was well saved by McCulloch, and when play continued Fotheringham put the ball into the net but was ruled off-side.
