Montrose 4-1 Elgin- Match Report

Woods opens the floodgates

Montrose stormed into the top four with a 4-1 demolition of play-off rivals Elgin at Links Park.

The hosts got off to a flying start when Garry Woods produced a neat finish inside the box after seven minutes.

Stephen McNally doubled the advantage 10 minutes later when he rose highest to head home Jamie Winter's cross.

Victory was all but ensured just after the half-hour mark when Martin Boyle rifled one in from the edge of the penalty area.

Further gloss was added by Richard McIntosh on 63 minutes when he slammed the ball into the top corner after some good work by Boyle.

Paul Millar added a consolation from close range minutes later, but Elgin were reduced to 10 men soon after as Sean Crighton was dismissed.

The defender fouled last man Boyle to concede the penalty but Joe Malin produced a fine save to deny David Gray from the spot.
