Montrose came from behind to beat East Stirling in wintry conditions.

Bottom of the league East Stirling shocked Montrose when they took the lead in 11 minutes. A quick free-kick released Mark Tyrell on the right and his low cross was knocked home by Chris McGroarty.

Two minutes later a pass from McGroarty set up Ross Donaldson and his shot was saved by Jim Butter.

Montrose finally equalised in 27 minutes when a pass from Kevin Webster set up Duncan McLean and he netted with a low drive.

East Stirling finished the first half strongly and Mark Tyrell drove into the sidenetting then Butter had to block well from Derek Ure.

Montrose went close in 53 minutes when Martin Wood broke from defence and set up Stephen Fraser, whose effort was turned away for a corner.

From the resulting corner, Montrose took the lead. The ball broke to Webster 25 yards out and his shot found the corner of the net.

Montrose made it 3-1 in 59 minutes when Graeme Sharp went on a run and crossed for Webster to score.

The home side added a fourth goal in 70 minutes when Fraser passed for McLean to round the keeper and slot the ball into the net.

In 75 minutes East Stirling were unlucky when an effort from McGroarty was cleared off the line by Barry Donnachie.

Montrose finished strongly and en effort from Fraser was deflected just wide then a shot on the turn from Kerr Dodds struck the side netting.

In the final minute Calum Watson was denied by keeper Tony Mitchell, then Daryn Smith shot just wide.
